Staffordshire local studies’ societies

Learned societies became common in Britain in the 19th century. They informed their members though their publications and meetings, then a wider public through libraries and institutions.

Nowadays it is often difficult  to find their works, because of  the changed practices of libraries and because of new ways of acquiring information.

Four are listed here for Staffordshire, but this number is not exhaustive and it is expected that more societies will be added over time. If you know of omitted groups, please let us know.

Interest concentrates on groups and clubs producing professional research and comment on Staffordshire; describing its archaeology, natural history, geology, palaeontology, history and scientific enquiry.
